The two-day workshop was the first in a series of eight sessions that will equip participants with critical skills in innovation leadership. From understanding emerging technologies to mastering design thinking, the programme is transforming how financial services organisations approach innovation in this rapidly evolving sector.
Highlights and key learnings
Technology is reshaping financial services
The workshop underscored the critical role of emerging technologies in transforming the financial sector. Speakers like Felix Honecker highlighted cutting-edge innovations ranging from artificial intelligence to spatial computing and quantum technologies. The message was clear: professionals must continuously adapt and understand technological trends to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving industry.
Design thinking: a human-centred approach to innovation
James Lucas, founder of Lunos, presented a session that introduced design thinking as a powerful problem-solving methodology. This approach goes beyond traditional problem-solving by deeply understanding user needs and creating genuinely user-centric solutions. The workshop emphasised that true innovation isn't just about technological capabilities, but about creating meaningful solutions that address real-world challenges in financial services.
Entrepreneurial insights and practical innovation
Lynne Darcey Quigley's entrepreneurial talk brought a practical dimension to innovation. Through her experience with Know-it, she demonstrated how innovative platforms can solve complex business challenges—in this case, helping organisations manage credit processes, mitigate risk, and better understand customers. Her story highlighted that successful innovation combines technological insight with a clear understanding of market needs and practical applications.
Looking ahead
As the financial landscape continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, programmes like this are crucial to bridge the gap between technological potential and practical implementation. The first workshop of the Innovation Leadership Programme has set a promising foundation for the cohort’s future success. Workshop Two will take place in January in Bristol.
